Most online PDF tools upload your document before they can touch it. Visual PDF works the other way around: the tool runs inside your browser, and your file stays where it already is, safe.

A PDF is rarely just a PDF
It is a lease, an ID, a payslip, a diagnosis, a contract nobody has signed yet. Trimming a margin should not mean handing that document to a company you have never heard of.
Plenty of free tools are paid for with your data, and lately with what an AI can learn from it. We built ours the other way around: privacy here is not a promise to trust, it is where the code runs.
The tool comes to your PDF, not the other way around
Drop a PDF on a Visual PDF tool and your browser downloads a small program, then runs it on your own machine. Pages are drawn, edited and saved inside the tab you already have open. Nothing goes out, so there is nothing for us to store, read or lose.
It works the same way on a phone, a tablet or a ten-year-old laptop.
Open your browser developer tools, go to the Network tab, then crop or merge a file. You will see the page load, then nothing at all: your document never shows up in the list. It is a test most PDF sites cannot pass, because they have to upload your file before they can work on it.
- Phone, tablet or computer: the work happens on the device in your hand.
- No upload bar. A heavy scan opens as fast as your device can draw it, even on a poor connection.
- Nobody can leak, sell or scan a document they never received. Not us, not a hosting provider, not an AI model in training.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint need a server
Turning an Office document into a PDF takes software that cannot run in a browser yet, so those three converters use ours. We could stay quiet and let the privacy promise cover the whole site. We would rather tell you exactly what happens to your file.
Those three tools are the only ones that ever receive a document. Everything else on Visual PDF runs on your device.
- Your file travels over an encrypted connection, and only to run the conversion.
- It is deleted as soon as the conversion is done, and an automated sweep clears anything left behind within the hour.
- We never open, read or index what is inside, file names stay out of our logs, and nothing is used to train anything.
We count visits, not people
We do need to know which tools get used and which ones break. We measure that with an open-source analytics tool we host ourselves on a EU-based server, set up so it cannot recognize you from one visit to the next.
No advertising network is involved, no data broker gets a copy, and there is no profile of you anywhere to sell.
- We use no tracking cookies, which is why you never have a consent banner to dismiss.
- Your IP address is never recorded. We only track the country you are located in.
- Nothing about your documents is recorded: not what is in them, not even their names.
Millions of files edited here. We have never seen one.
Privacy is only half of it: the tools have to be good, too. That part is not for us to judge.
